Live mode: split the bill together, at the table

Pass one phone around, or have everyone join the same bill. Items are assigned in real time, and a few people can finish it for the whole table.

The short answer

Live mode lets everyone at the table edit the same bill together in real time. The host starts the bill, friends join by QR or link, and anyone can assign items, so two or three people can complete the bill for a table of ten. The host finishes it and everyone settles.

Why it exists

At a big table the bill is the worst part of the night. Ten people, one card, one person squinting at a receipt. Live mode puts the whole table on the same screen so it is done in minutes.

How it works

  1. Start a live bill. Scan the receipt or add the items. The bill goes live.
  2. Invite the table. Show the QR code or share the short link. Friends join from their own phones.
  3. Assign together. Everyone sees a live strip with who is in and a counter of items done. Anyone can assign items, mark them done or reopen them.
  4. Finish and settle. When every item is done the host finishes the bill. Shares are worked out, including tax and tip.

Not everyone has to help

In a group of ten, two or three motivated people can assign and complete the entire bill for everybody. The rest just see their share when it is done. No one is stuck waiting on the slowest person.

Dinner at Nono · $70.00 · you paid
Ana: Margherita$15.00
Ben: Carbonara$16.00
Chloe: Tiramisu + wine$32.00
You: Garlic bread$7.00
Friends owe you$63.00

Who is on the bill

Each item shows its contributors as avatars, so it is obvious who has been assigned what, and the progress bar shows how close you are to done. The host stays in control and decides when to finish.

Live mode needs a connection

Because everyone edits at the same moment, Live mode needs an internet connection. When people are not together, use claim links instead: send the bill and let friends fill in their items later.

One set of numbers, from the bill to the group

Slyce keeps three layers consistent, so you can start from whichever one you care about:

Bills do not need a group. A one-time dinner with people you will never add to a group is a normal bill, and it still counts in your friend balances.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can join a live bill?

As many as were at the table. Everyone joins by link or QR code.

Does everyone need to install Slyce?

No. Friends can join through the link without installing or signing up.

What happens if only a few people assign items?

That is fine. Any participant can assign items for the whole table, and the host finishes the bill.
